Beginning at 4 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 through 4 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, the intersection of Granada Avenue and St. Mary’s Road/Sixth Street will be closed. Additionally, Main Avenue will be closed at Sixth Street during this work. The closure allows the contractor to complete installation of storm drain, traffic signal conduit and irrigation sleeves across the roadways.
On Monday, July 22, 2013 (at midnight, early Tuesday morning), the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Hunter Contracting will close Poorman Road at Houghton Road to accelerate the build-up and new construction of Poorman Road east of Houghton Road. This work is being done to help control stormwater drainage in the area. This work is scheduled to be complete within one week, with Poorman Road reopening at that time.
On Thursday, July 18, 2013, at about 9 a.m., work crews will close Cherrybell Stravenue at 22nd Street to begin modifying the southwest quadrant of the intersection. The closure is scheduled to be in place for approximately 30 days.
Drivers are advised to use 23rd Street, Silverlake Road, Warehouse Avenue, Cherry Avenue, 18th Street, and Park Avenue to get to their destinations from the immediate area.
This work is part of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA)-funded Kino Boulevard and 22nd Street Intersection Improvement Project.
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Authority will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the start of the Houghton Road widening project from Broadway to 22nd Street. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 9 a.m. and will be held on the future site of the Sun Tran Park and Ride Lot, which is at the northwest quadrant of the Broadway and Houghton intersection.
Road closures are in place on Tucson’s West side as Tucson Electric Power crews continue working to replace downed power poles and power lines. During this work, travel restrictions are in place.
Ironwood Hill Drive is closed from Shannon Road to Ironwood Ridge Drive, which is just west of Silverbell Road. Twelve power poles were knocked down during yesterday’s thunderstorms. Work to replace the power poles is expected to take several days to complete. Travel restrictions will be in place during this work.
The start of the $100 million, five-year street bond program - Road Recovery - will take place with a groundbreaking event at 9 a.m., on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the southeast corner of Tucson Boulevard and Corona Road, just outside the entrance of the Tucson International Airport.
As the end of Fiscal Year 2013 approaches on June 30, 2013, the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) is completing the $20 million Fiscal Year 2013 Pavement Preservation Program approved by the Mayor and Council in May 2012. Nearly 60 miles of City streets were rehabilitated through this program. TDOT employed a variety of paving operations depending on the existing pavement conditions on the various streets, which included fog sealing, micro-surfacing and milling (removing asphalt) and repaving.
On Monday, June 24, 2013, at 10 a.m., the public is invited to celebrate a solar event on the Luis G. Gutierrez Bridge crossing the Santa Cruz River at Cushing Street. At the event, the canopy shade cut-outs, which depict raindrops, will cast sunlight on the ground plane imagery to commemorate the start of El Dia de San Juan, Tucson’s monsoon season. City staff, the Tucson Pima Arts Council, community members and artist Brenda Semanick will be present for the event.
On Monday, June 24, 2013, beginning at 7 a.m., Rita Road will be closed to travel at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing to allow work crews to begin railroad track improvements at the at-grade crossing, located between Old Vail Road and Interstate 10. The complete closure is scheduled to be in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013. The improvements include new railroad ties, ballast and flat panels. When complete, the railroad track work will improve pedestrian and bicycle access across the tracks.
