On Saturday, September 7, 2013, travel restrictions will be in place on westbound Golf Links Road, west of Swan Road to allow crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division to remove catwalks on overhead sign structures. The travel lane restrictions will begin at 6 a.m. The work is expected to take about six to eight hours to complete. During the work, two of the four westbound travel lanes will remain open to traffic.
On Monday, September 9, 2013, at 9 p.m., crews from Falcone Brothers & Associates, Inc., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will close the Grant Road and Oracle Road intersection to allow workers to reconstruct the intersection. The intersection will reopen to through travel at 5:30 a.m. the next day, with left turn prohibitions. During the nighttime closure, right turns in all four travel directions will be allowed.
On Friday, September 6, 2013 at 4 p.m., the City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) are hosting a community event at the new Sun Link Maintenance & Operations Facility, 290 E. Eighth Street, to dedicate the newly constructed Facility and to showcase Tucson’s first Made in the USA Sun Link streetcar.
SIXTH STREET TO DRACHMAN STREET SLURRY SEAL FOR TWO-WAY CONVERSION
In preparation of the Sixth Avenue two-way conversion, the contractor will pave a slurry seal along Sixth Avenue from north of the Sixth Avenue underpass to Drachman Street. Work will take place on Monday, August 26, 2013 and Tuesday August 27, 2013 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The following traffic control will be in place:
On Saturday, August 17, 2013, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will close the westbound Golf Links Road off ramp to Aviation Parkway to remove catwalks on the overhead sign structures on the Parkway. The closure will take place from 6 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.
Grant Road Improvement Plan – Phase 2
The second phase of the Grant Road Improvement Plan will create the final design for the roadway from North Castro Avenue to North Fremont Avenue. This will take the design from the current 30% to 100% final design to prepare for reconstruction of this segment of the roadway.
On Monday, August 5, 2013, at approximately 9 p.m., the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Hunter Contracting will shift traffic to the newly paved west side portion of Houghton Road between Poorman Road and Irvington Road. Crews will also connect the side streets on the east side of Houghton Road to the newly paved portion of Houghton Road.
Also, Drexel Road will remain closed for several hours. Motorists are advised to use Seven Generations Way or Bilby Road for alternative access.
