Downtown will be the host of the annual All Souls Procession this Sunday, November 3, 2013. The Procession will stage in the historic Warehouse District at 6th Avenue and 7th Street beginning Sunday at 4 p.m. The procession will begin moving through downtown at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Grant Road and Oracle Road Intersection Improvement Project.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the southeast corner of Grant Road and Oracle Road, just south of the Circle K. Light refreshments will be served.
Downtown Tucson will be the host of several exciting events this weekend. Below is a list of the major events and associated motor vehicle travel restrictions. Please note that pedestrian and bicycle access is being maintained in and around road closures. Businesses, parking garages and parking lots are open and accessible. There are over 15,000 available parking spaces in the Downtown Tucson.
Some of these events will require the closure of downtown streets; however, every effort has been made to coordinate timing to provide optimum access to downtown.
On Monday, October 7, 2013, crews from Southern Arizona Paving Co., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin improvements to Rita Road, from the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks to Science Park Drive. Work hours for the project will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
On Thursday, October 3, 2013 and on Friday, October 4, 2013, from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. the public will see daytime testing of the Sun Link streetcar along a fully electrified route for the first time. In addition, these daytime tests will also include driver training and certification. All Sun Link streetcars must undergo and pass specification, performance and safety tests to be ready for passenger service in the summer of 2014.
On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, beginning at 9 p.m., work crews will begin the final paving of the Grant Road and Oracle Road intersection. The paving work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Friday morning October 4, 2013.

On Thursday, September 19, 2013 and Monday, September 23, 2013, Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will restripe Sixth Avenue from Drachman Street to Sixth Street. This work is in preparation for the conversion of Sixth Avenue to two-way travel along this section of roadway.
On Saturday, September 7, 2013, travel restrictions will be in place on westbound Golf Links Road, west of Swan Road to allow crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division to remove catwalks on overhead sign structures. The travel lane restrictions will begin at 6 a.m. The work is expected to take about six to eight hours to complete. During the work, two of the four westbound travel lanes will remain open to traffic.
On Monday, September 9, 2013, at 9 p.m., crews from Falcone Brothers & Associates, Inc., under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will close the Grant Road and Oracle Road intersection to allow workers to reconstruct the intersection. The intersection will reopen to through travel at 5:30 a.m. the next day, with left turn prohibitions. During the nighttime closure, right turns in all four travel directions will be allowed.
