The Human Library is an innovative project designed to promote dialogue, reduce and dispel stereotypes, myths and prejudices, thereby, promoting inclusion, tolerance and understanding.
Books are People - People are the "Books of knowledge," the subject matter expert; someone who is willing to engage in conversation about a particular topic they are familiar with; willing to share an experience in dialogue and its impact.
Readers are People - Are people who come to "check-out/borrow" a Book from the library. The Book is on loan for about 30 minutes. The Book and the Reader engage is informal conversation.
"The Human Library enables groups to break stereotypes by challenging the most common prejudices in a positive and humorous manner. It is a concrete, easily transferable and affordable way of promoting tolerance and understanding. It is a "keep it simple", "no-nonsense" contribution to social cohesion in multicultural societies." - Human Library web site at: http://humanlibrary.org
