Biography: Doug Crockett has been the City of Tucson Energy Manager since September 2006 and is primary responsible for the City's energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy projects. Doug helped secure Tucson's designation as a Solar America City with the Tucson Solar Initiative grant funded by the U. S. Department of Energy (2007-09). Doug is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) through the Association of Energy Engineers and a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional through the U. S. Green Building Council. Doug previously worked for the Tucson Unified School District (1991- 2006) where he initiated the Resources Efficiency Awareness Program (REAP) and related utility projects dealing with alternative fuels, solar applications, reclaimed water and recycling. Doug received the Arizona Governor's Energy Advocate of the Year Award (2002 & 2005). During a sabbatical leave from TUSD, Doug also initiated the Civano Institute/Tucson Institute for Sustainable Communities (1997). Doug completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree with an Energy Management Specialization (1984) and has over 20 years of experience in the field.

Biography: Maricela Rivera joined the Energy Team in the beginning of the 2011 summer. She is a Senior majoring in Biosystems Engineering with a minor in Business Administration at the University of Arizona, Maricela enjoys learning about and exploring alternative forms of energy as well as remote sensors and controls. She also holds a position as Student Administrative Assistant for the University of Arizona Graduate Interdisciplinary Program. Previous to her employment for the City of Tucson, Maricela worked the University of Arizona College of Engineering, as a Counselor for the University of Arizona Summer Engineering Academy.

Biography:

Randy Martinez joined the Energy Team in February 2013. He is a senior at the University of Arizona, double majoring in Engineering Management and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Randy enjoys Mathematical modeling topics of Crowd dynamics, Population Dynamics, Epidemics, and Predator & Prey. Randy also enjoys Circuit Analysis, Circuit Theory as well as constructing circuits in the lab. He has had a lot of field experience as Project Manager, specifically in the Fire Protection division with Sun Mechanical Contractors. Some of his most recent projects he managed were the UA Recreation Expansion Center and the Highland/Tyndall Dormitories. Randy is also a current employee at the UITS 24/7 where he works part time as a Technical Consultant

Biography: Victor Hugo Ruiz started working for the Energy Team in October 2012. He is currently a junior at the University of Arizona majoring in Mechanical Engineering and a Math minor. He enjoys working with Excel and has experience working with engineering companies such as Larson Davis in the product and logistics department. Aside from school work, Victor Hugo enjoys playing the piano, sports, and salsa dancing.

Below is a list of interns that have previously worked for the City of Tucson.

Patrick Kain

Biography: Patrick Kain joined the Energy Team in the beginning of the 2009 summer. As a student majoring in Optical Sciences & Engineering with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Arizona, Patrick enjoys learning about and exploring many optical topics such as imaging, fiber optic communications, photovoltaic theory, and the 3D design of optical systems. Previous to his employment for the City of Tucson, Patrick worked for a private electrical connector company, coordinating and performing statistical analysis on various mechanical studies. In his free time, Patrick enjoys digital photography, spending time outdoors, and playing and watching sports.

James Williams

Biography: James Williams joined the City of Tucson's Energy Office as an technological intern in November 2007. He is a senior at the University of Arizona majoring in engineering management and minoring in industrial engineering. During his tenure with the Energy Office, James has provided research and analysis for multiple energy conservation and solar related projects as well as hands on installation of energy saving devices. Before joining the Energy Office, James was a member of the United States Air Force where he maintained aircraft electrical and environmental systems. He received multiple service medals and received a honorable discharge after four years of service. 

Kevin Do

Biography: Kevin Do served as an Intern at the Energy Office from Fall 2007 until Spring 2008. In his time with the City, he created the Energy Office's website and worked on projects related to the Solar America Cities Initiative. He has since graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona. He has been active with the Arizona Solar Racing Team since 2005 and remains active as an alumni member. Currently, he works in the field of environmental health and safety at the University of Arizona with an emphasis on radiation safety.

Corrie Nesbitt

Biography: Corrie Nesbitt served as an intern with the City of Tucson from December 2007 until December 2012. Before his tenure with the City of Tucson, Corrie was a student at Pueblo Magnet High School.  Corrie Nesbitt is a junior at the University of Arizona majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in mathematics. Corrie has used his leadership experience from previous employers to help him help the City of Tucson with energy conservation scenarios and solar energy templates.  Currently, he works at GLHN.

Lorenzo Escobar

Biography: Lorenzo Escobar  served as an intern from May 2011 until April 2012. He is a student at the University of Arizona0 majoring in Engineering Management with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. Lorenzo finds challenging work fun and enjoys working with Microsoft Excel and Project. Lorenzo’s work before the City of Tucson involved CAD drawings, specs and reading tech manuals.

Hannah Budinoff

Biography: Hannah Budinoff joined the Energy Team in September 2012. She is a senior at the University of Arizona, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with minors in French and Mathematics. Hannah particularly enjoys courses on thermodynamics, computer-aided design, and finite element analysis. She has had summer internships in Phoenix with APS and Honeywell. Hannah loves the outdoors and spends her free time training with TriCats, the University of Arizona triathlon team.
