Recycling/Garbage Collection Information on Your Smartphone
Do you ever wonder when your next brush and bulky collection is scheduled? Not sure if the holiday will affect your trash and recycling collection? Now, there’s an App for that! If you use a smartphone or tablet, you can download the City of Tucson’s App that puts garbage, recycling, special waste collection details and more at your fingertips, anytime you want.
"Environmental Services has just launched a mobile App that provides all the information residents need to know, tailored to their neighborhood, about residential trash and recycling services," said Fran LaSala, ES Waste Diversion Manager. "The 'my-waste'™ App lets mobile device users download the full range of information about collection schedules that Tucson provides to residents. By downloading 'my-waste'™, Tucsonans can check for regular and special collections, household hazardous waste or e-waste collections, and sign up to receive notifications when they want.
The 'my-waste'™ App includes:
- A calendar that shows the customer's Trash and Recycling schedule, including holiday changes, brush and bulky dates, and HHW collection schedules
- A look up tool about recyclables and non-accepted waste
- Problem report tool that enables residents to notify ES via e-mail and photo of problems like a missed pick-up, illegal dumping, or container replacements
The 'my-waste'™ download is free. Residents can get it by going to http://www.my-waste.mobi/AZ-Tucson/, then selecting the icon link either to the iPhone/iPad or Android App store.
"Once residents have downloaded the App, they can set it up to give them regular reminders for any of the collection programs. For example, they can set a reminder for the day that recycling is collected or they can set up alerts just for household hazardous or electronic waste collection days," LaSala said. "This is a new way for us to connect with residents about our waste diversion programs. We’ll be able to update the information on the App as needed so it will always be current."
Tucson is adding the ‘my-waste’™ App to its communication outreach activities. It will continue to distribute printed materials and have information on the website for residents who prefer them. Customer Service phone support will not be affected.
