GREVY'S ZEBRA BABY ON EXHIBIT

A male Grevy’s zebra born at Reid Park Zoo on August 31 will be on exhibit for the first time this morning. Mom and baby spent several days behind-the-scenes under careful observation. The young zebra had a low birth weight, but he is now nursing, gaining weight, and ready to explore the larger habitat. Zoo Staff and Veterinarian will continue to keep a close eye on this first time mom and her offspring for the next several critical months as he gains strength.

POLAR BEAR "SNOW" HAS DIED

Reid Park Zoo is deeply saddened to announce the death of “Snow,” a 17 year-old polar bear. She was discovered first thing this morning by her Zoo Keeper. She was in her normal sleeping position and location, with no signs of trauma.

2013 PAVEMENT PRESERVATION PROGRAM

ORACLE ROAD, DRACHMAN STREET TO MIRACLE MILE 

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), have begun pre-lowering utilities on Oracle Road between Drachman Street and Miracle Mile to prepare for repaving this section of roadway.  Crews will be pre-lowering utilities from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with single lane closures from Monday, August 20, 2012 to Friday, August 24, 2012.

REDISTRICTING ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT TO REDISTRICT CITY WARD BOUNDARIES

Every four years the boundaries of the six wards of the City are reviewed to determine whether adjustments are necessary to equalize the population in each ward.  The Mayor and Council have established a citizens committee to assist with this effort.

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR GRANT ROAD AND ORACLE ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS

The City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) are breaking ground on the Grant Road and Oracle Road Intersection Improvement Project on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 8:30 a.m., at the southwest corner of Grant Road and 10th Avenue. Attendees will include County Supervisor for District 5 Richard Elias, Ward 3 Council Member Karin Uhlich, Tucson City Manager Richard Miranda, Transportation Services Director for the RTA Jim DeGrood, Interim City Transportation Director Tony Paez, and Grant Road Task Force representative Susan Alexander.

PRECONSTRUCTION OPEN HOUSE - GRANT ROAD AND ORACLE ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS

The public is invited to attend a preconstruction open house regarding the Grant Road and Oracle Road Intersection Improvement project, Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Pima Community College -Downtown Campus, CC Building, Amethyst Room (Room 180), 1255 N. Stone Avenue, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  There will be a brief presentation regarding the overall project at 6:15 p.m.  The remaining time will be used for one on one interaction with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation staff, RTA Staff, the project consultant and the contractor.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT JOB FAIR

The City of Tucson Information Technology (IT) Department will be hosting its first-ever job fair on Saturday, June 16, 2012. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., qualified candidates can apply for, and interview with IT staff at the IT Building, 481 West Paseo Redondo, which is west of Granada Avenue and north of Alameda Street. Parking is available at the City/State Parking Garage, 498 West Congress Street.
