RIO NUEVO BOARD AUTHORIZES $4.3M LOAN AGREEMENT FOR STITELER HOTEL PROJECT - The Rio Nuevo board voted 4-1 yesterday to have its attorney draft a $4.3 million loan agreement with developer Scott Stiteler for a proposed Marriott hotel at Fifth Avenue and Broadway. The proposed 139-room, seven-story hotel would be located directly north of Stiteler's One North Fifth apartment complex, east of the City's Martin Luther King Apartments and across Fifth Ave. from the Hotel Congress. Stiteler is also still seeking an eight-year property tax exemption under the City's GPLET program and a $7 million loan through the city's Community Development Loan Fund to complete the financing of the $27 million hotel project. TUCSON RESTAURATEUR ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW EATERY AT CONGRESS AND TOOLE - Metzger Family Restaurants, owners of Jax Kitchen and The Abbey, has announced plans to open their newest venture, Gio Taco later this year. The restaurant will be located in the Cadence/Plaza Centro development, a mixed-use project at the east end of Congress St, one of several downtown developments seeking property tax abatement under the Citys GPLET program. According to an independent economic impact analysis reviewed by M&C last month, the construction phase of the project will have created 230 direct jobs, 150 indirect jobs and $43.5M of total impact. STORMWATER ROAD ADVISORIES FOR UNINCORPORATED PIMA COUNTY - Flooding from monsoon storms has resulted in road closures and caution advisories from Pima County's Department of Transportation. The department is providing a list and GIS map of the closures. As of 11 a.m. today, Anway Rd. is closed between Avra Valley Rd. and Magee Rd., Redington Road is closed between mile markers 25 to and 27, and Silverbell Road remains closed between Avra Valley Road to Sasco Road. CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY: CROWD MANAGEMENT AND USHERING SERVICES FOR THE TCC - In separate requests for proposals (RFPs), the City is seeking contractors to provide crowd management and ushering services for the Tucson Convention Center. Crowd management services are required to assure the safety of performers and members for the public before, during and after scheduled performances such as rock concerts, motorsports events and family entertainment events through the use of peer group security.
