FARHAD MOGHIMI GETS TOP JOB AT PAG/RTA - The Pima Association of Governments, the board of which also oversees Pima County's Regional Transportation Authority, has named Farhad Moghimi as Executive Director for the two agencies. HEARING ON PENSION INITIATIVE RESUMES TOMORROW - A lawsuit challenging the validity of initiative petitions filed with the City Clerk by political consultant Peter Zimmerman on behalf of the Committee for Sustainable Retirement Benefits got underway Friday in the courtroom of Judge James Marner of the Pima County Superior Court. At issue is whether several thousand of the signatures filed can legally count toward the required 12,730 necessary for the initiative to appear on November's ballot. Plaintiffs in the case say 10,000 of the signatures were improperly collected or modified. According to the initial complaint, over 6,700 of the signatures filed were collected by convicted felons whose civil rights have not been restored. PIMA COUNTY EXTENDS DEADLINE ON BOND SURVEY - Pima County officials have extended the deadline by a week for an anonymous online survey in which participants are asked to identify top priorities for an upcoming bond election. The new deadline is 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9. According to a County news release, more than 12,300 residents have weighed in since the survey was released on July 19.
