SKATE PARK AT SANTA RITA PARK TO BE NAMED FOR ALBERT M. GALLEGO

The skate park at Santa Rita Park, 22nd Street and South 3rd Avenue, will have a name just in time for Thanksgiving.

City of Tucson and Pima County officials will come together Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. with the Santa Rita Park Neighborhood Association and family members for a ceremony to officially designate the site as the Albert M. Gallego Skate Park.

The $835,000 site, which opened for public use in April, represents a City of Tucson and Pima County partnership and features three separate skating bowls -- a Flow Course Bowl, Kidney Bowl and Clam Bowl -- offering 16,000 square feet of skating area.

The free facility is open during regular park hours and includes three skate grind benches, shade ramada, perimeter fencing and lights for evening use.

Funding sources include: Ward 3, Ward 5 and the Mayor’s Office Back to Basics; City of Tucson Community Development Block Grant; Pima County Neighborhood Reinvestment; and Pima County bonds.
