Completed Projects

Arroyo Chico Urban Greenway:Si Schorr Segment
This multi-use path iscomplete at Reid Park. In the long term, the greenway is planned to be a multiuse path that will connect Reid Park to downtown. The Reid  Park segment will follow the perimeter of Reid Park west of Randolph Way and will serve as an extension to the popular David Bell Multi-use Path. Other segments of the greenway are being implemented incrementally as funding becomes available. Funding: The Reid Park Segment is from Regional Transportation Authority, Impact Fees, and a Back to Basics allocation from the Mayor’s Office.


 

Julian Wash Greenway
This project includes the construction of 2.7 miles linear park and multi-use path between Kolb Road and Rita Road and includes five interactive/educational rest nodes, artificial Burrowing Owl dens, trailhead parking and restroom facility.

Juhan Park Expansion – Softball Field Lighting
As part of recent park expansion efforts, sports field lighting has been installed at the existing south, softball field.

 
Menlo Park Restroom
This project includes the removal and replacement of an existing, obsolete restroom at Menlo Park. Funding: $167,100 in City of Tucson, 2000 General Obligation Bond funds.

 
Oury Center Covered Basketball Court Project
This project included the construction of a covered basketball court including a new stage, bleachers, passive water harvesting system, lighting and volleyball court. The project also provides for a new play area and a stage sound system that will enhance public gatherings and festivities in the shade.


 

Reid Park Zoo – Africa Expansion & Elephant Exhibit
This project involves a 7-acre expansion to the Reid Park Zoo. The expansion includes a 3-acre elephant exhibit and a 7,700 sq. ft. barn for elephant holding, staff office space, public restrooms, food service area, and interpretive displays.
Funding: $2,285,000 in City of Tucson, GO Bonds, $900,000 in Reid Park Zoo donation accounts, $5,200,000 in private donations through the Reid Park Zoological Society and $1,226,000 in City of Tucson Certificates of Participation for a total of $9,611,000.

 

Swan Park Playground Improvements 
This project will provide ADA access to the existing playground, a new climbing boulder, table and benches and shade sails over the area to extend the time the playground can be used comfortably.


 

Verdugo Park
Park improvements include a new Ramada with a small stage area, a half court basketball court, and ADA access and parking. In partnership with the Audubon Society, the groundwork will be laid for the neighborhood to teach and learn about passive water harvesting, native plants, and attracting native bird species to the area. 


 

 

Projects Underway

A Mountain – Phase 1 Construction
This project will construct safety improvements and ADA compliance to public facilities at A Mountain Park.
 
Atterbury Wash Linear Park
This project involves a planning, design, construction for the expansion of the existing trail system in Lincoln Park and passive recreation amenities along the wash.
 
Catalina High School-Skate Park
Providing ADA access to skate rink with gates, fencing and parking with ramps.
 
Catalina Park
New playground and shade structure.  Walk way improvements to meet ADA standards.
 
Catalina Park Splash Pad
A Splash Pad will be the highlight of this project. Also included will be a new covered play structure, utility room to house the new pool equipment, steel and masonry fencing with imbedded lights, accessible walkways and landscape and irrigation. The park is located in the Historic West University Neighborhood and will reflect some of the elements of the original park design.
 
Cherry Avenue Recreation Center Expansion - Phase II
This project involves upgrades to the existing center in regard to the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as security upgrades. The focus of the ADA work will be on the restrooms and kitchen and the security measures will include vandal-proof window screens and a closed circuit television system.
 

Davidson Elementary School Ph2 - Community Garden
Construction of the second phase is now getting started at Davidson. The improvements shall provide a community garden that will be operated by Tucson Community Gardens. Residents will be able to "lease" a plot for personal gardening. There will also be a number of garden plots for the school's use. Included in these improvements will be a ramada with raised planter beds, a circular planting area for trailing vegetables, a garden shed for tools, a drinking fountain and accessible walkways and planters. This project is made possible by funding from Ward 2 and the existing agreement between the City and TUSD.


 
Estevan Park
Design and construct a new playground and shade structure.

 
Freedom Park
Received funds for a 3,600 foot lighted asphalt walkway, drinking fountains, irrigation, landscaping, fitness stations, playgrounds shade structure, covered bench and a educational node.  
 
Jacobs Park
Replace Tot Turf playground surfacing and security lighting at the Milagro Playground.

 
Limberlost Park
New shade structure.  
 
Lincoln Park Sports Fields
This project includes the construction of a four field lighted softball complex, including a concession and bathroom facility, parking and other associated improvements. Funding: $3.4 million in Pima County 2004 Bond Funding. 
 
Marty Birdman Center (Balboa Park) Erosion Controls & Splash Pad
This project involves the installation of erosion control measures to better protect the existing basketball court and will also include a small splash pad (water play area) for park users.
 

Pima Regional Trail System


 
McCormick Park
Improvements to sidewalks and tot turf for playground to be ADA compliant. 
 
Menlo Park
Improvements to include sports field lighting, new shade structure at playground and pool.  Sidewalk improvements to be ADA compliant.  
 
Ormsby Park Expansion 
This project includes a concept plan that will guide land acquisition, design and construction of a multi phase expansion of the park, including an equestrian staging area and trail linkage to Santa Cruz River Park and Origins West area of Rio Nuevo. Design and construction are contingent upon future bonds and potential grants.
 
Purple Heart Park
Designing an off lease Dog Park, using cell tower funds.  
 
Reid Park
Restroom and walkway remodeled for ADA compliance.
 
Sports Lighting Improvements
Improvements are underway at Mirasol, David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz (Oury) Park, Jacobs and Mission Manor to upgrade sports lighting systems.  
 
Toumey Park
This project includes a new playground area, landscaping upgrades and irrigation modifications.
 
Vista Del Prado Park
New shade structure over existing playground.
 
Wakefield Neighborhood 
The funding for this project will include an at grade skate park, ramada, asphalt walking path, lighting, fencing, drinking fountain and picnic tables.
