NEIGHBORHOOD CELEBRATES LA MADERA PARK IMPROVEMENTS OCT. 11

La Madera Park, 2700 E. Florence Ave., will host a celebration Sunday, Oct. 11 from 3-5 p.m. as neighbors gather to recognize improvements to the site.

A $250,000 project, coordinated by Tucson Parks and Recreation, resulted in “green” park improvements, including:

- a graywater system to capture water runoff from the drinking fountain and restroom sinks and direct it to a new tree

- a water harvesting cistern to collect runoff from the comfort station and ramada roof and store it for use at a new butterfly/hummingbird garden

- a solar system to power dawn to dusk lighting for the ramada and comfort station

- glass block windows in the comfort station and community area to decrease electrical costs during the day

- toilets that flush with reclaimed water to conserve drinking water

The celebration, sponsored by the La Madera Neighborhood Association, will include

Parks and Recreation staff and vendor representatives. The Association’s Parks Re-design Subcommittee worked closely with Parks and Recreation and the Office of Conservation and Sustainable Development on the project.
