Project Overview

Project Overview

• TEP is proposing to construct a 138-kV transmission line from the DMP Substation, located east of Interstate 10 (I-10) and north of Grant Road, to the Tucson Substation, located east of 11th Avenue between 4th Street and the Union Pacific Railroad

• Planning process: environmental studies and public outreach will be conducted to assist in identification and comparison of alternative transmission line routes and environmental impacts

• Project requires review by the Arizona Corporation Commission’s (ACC) Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee, resulting in a recommendation to and a final determination by the ACC prior to construction

• Anticipated in-service date: mid-2010

Purpose and Need

Purpose and Need

• Provide 138-kV transmission capability between the DMP and Tucson substations

• Improve system reliability for customers in the western portion of the Tucson area

• Existing transmission lines could not serve this purpose
and need

Project Description

Project Description

• A 138-kV transmission line from the DMP Substation, located east of Interstate 10 (I-10) and north of Grant Road, to the Tucson Substation, located east of 11th Avenue between 4th Street and the Union Pacific Railroad

• Depending upon its final route, the project could be several miles in length

• Potential to use existing 46-kV line rights-of-way

• In accordance with TEP’s design standards, the transmission line structures would be built to accommodate a second circuit (138- or 46-kV)

• A 100-foot-wide right-of-way required when not in road
right-of-way

• Upgrades to existing substations will not require additional property
