Stimulus Money to Fund UA Bioscience Park
The University of Arizona has been awarded $4.7 million in federal stimulus money to help build its planned Arizona Bioscience Park. The tax dollars will be used to pay for roads, utilities and landscaping at the future park located at East 36th Street and South Kino Parkway.
The 65 acre park will be part of a 357 acre development called The Bridges, which includes research facilities, housing and shopping center projects.
The grant was awarded through the Economic Development Administration and funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It will fund on-site infrastructure improvements at the Bio Park including: roads, water systems (potable, waste, storm and reclaimed), dry utilities – including gas, electricity and telecommunications – and perimeter landscaping.
The land was acquired in August 2007. The Arizona Board of Regents approved the Bioscience Park Master Land Use Plan in June 2009. Construction is scheduled to begin as early as this November.
