Three Stimulus Projects to Begin in Tucson
The I-10/Valencia Rd. to I-19/Valencia Rd. project, the I-10, Rita Rd. to Houghton Rd. project and the Santa Cruz River Bridge project have been selected as shovel-ready projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
I-10/Valencia Rd. to I-19/Valencia Rd.
This Freeway Management System project is Phase II of a vehicle management system along I-10 and I-19 in Tucson . Phase I included the installation of closed circuit TV cameras along the I-10 Prince Rd. to 29th St. widening project, plus overhead digital message signs. Phase II includes installation of 4 overhead digital message signs, 18 closed-circuit TV cameras, and wireless vehicle detection technology to count traffic and monitor speeds.
The estimated cost of this project is $9.1 million and construction is expected to begin in late July. The project will take 9 months to complete and it will create approximately 50 jobs. Additional jobs are expected to be created due to the project's use of high technology equipment.
I-10, Rita Rd. to Houghton Rd.
This I-10 pavement preservation project from Rita Rd. to Houghton Rd. will include two miles of repaving, estimated to cost $6 million. Approximately 80 jobs will be created by the project, which is expected to take about 6 months to complete.

Santa Cruz River Bridge
This project on Ajo Way ( State Route 86, just west of I-19) includes rehabilitation of the bridge deck and removal of patched and deteriorated areas. The total length of the bridge will also be overlaid with epoxy polymer. Construction will take approximately five weeks to complete and it is expected that 15 jobs will be created by this project. The estimated cost is $200,000.

ADOT Approved Projects
ADOT is receiving an estimated $350 million for highway and bridge projects statewide through ARRA. Funding is allocated to regions in Arizona according to state formula: approximately $130 million for Maricopa County , $46 million for Pima County , and $175 million for Arizona 's 13 other counties.
In March, the Arizona State Transportation Board decided that 41 shovel-ready highway projects across Arizona would advance with federal funding from the Recovery Act. Of these, 5 are in Maricopa County , 8 are in Pima County and 28 are located in Arizona 's 13 other counties.
