On Monday, January 7, 2013, at approximately 7 p.m., the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Hunter Contracting will temporarily shift traffic to the east side of Houghton Road from just north of Valencia Road to Drexel Road.
This shift will also include the removal of the following dedicated right turn lanes:
- Eastbound Irvington Road to southbound Houghton Road
- Northbound Houghton Road to eastbound Irvington Road
- Southbound Houghton Road to westbound Valencia Road
Right turns will still be allowed, just not in a dedicated turn lane.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in these work areas. Business and residential access will be maintained to the extent possible with only short, infrequent closures when heavy equipment is directly in front of a driveway. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
This is a project of the Regional Transportation Authority. The voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan will be implemented through 2026. Details about the full plan are available at www.RTAmobility.com. The Regional Transportation Authority has a nine-member board with representatives from local, state and tribal governments. This project will be managed by the City of Tucson.
