SIXTH STREET TO DRACHMAN STREET SLURRY SEAL FOR TWO-WAY CONVERSION
In preparation of the Sixth Avenue two-way conversion, the contractor will pave a slurry seal along Sixth Avenue from north of the Sixth Avenue underpass to Drachman Street. Work will take place on Monday, August 26, 2013 and Tuesday August 27, 2013 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The following traffic control will be in place:
- On Monday, August 25, 2013 the Sixth Avenue between Toole Avenue and Seventh Street, including the Sixth Avenue Underpass, will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please use Fourth Avenue and Seventh Avenue as alternate routes.
- There may be intermittent closures of driveways and side streets as the paving operation moves through the area and while the paving material cures. The closures should not last for more than 30 minutes.
- Parking along Sixth Avenue, between Drachman Street and the Sixth Avenue underpass will not be allowed during this two-day paving operation.
Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), is improving the pavement on Sixth Street along with converting the roadway to two-way traffic operations. The work consists of cape sealing followed by slurry sealing and new striping. When complete, Sixth Avenue from Sixth Street north to Drachman Street will become a two-way street.
Crews will be working 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The project is scheduled to be completed in mid-August 2013.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in the work area. Parking on Sixth Avenue will be restricted at times. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
