On Thursday, January 16, 2014, the contractor will switch traffic control from the temporary traffic signals to the new permanent traffic signals at the Granada Avenue and St. Mary’s Road intersection. During the work and until the new traffic signals are in operation, Tucson Police officers will direct traffic through the intersection. The work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and be complete by 3 p.m.

On Friday, January 17, 2014, eastbound and westbound traffic will be switched to their appropriate sides of the median.  One lane of travel in each direction will be maintained through the end of January 2014.  Additionally, left turn movements at the St. Mary’s/Granada Avenue intersection will be restored in all directions.

The St. Mary’s Road construction project is nearly complete.  Over the next two weeks, the contractor will complete the installation of medians, sidewalks and new irrigation. Concurrently, the contractor will place the base layer of asphalt on the south side of St. Mary’s Road and temporary striping will be installed throughout the project corridor.

In consideration of the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the contractor will halt work on the project from the end of January 2014 through February 2014, with the roadway completely open to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.  In March 2014, the contractor will resume work to complete landscape installation, and placement of the final lift of pavement and permanent striping along St. Mary’s Road, from Church Avenue to the westbound I-10 frontage road.

The $7.3 million RTA-funded project began in November 2012. The voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan will be implemented through 2026. While funded through the RTA, the above projects will be managed by TDOT.
