By 5 p.m., on Friday, August 31, 2012, construction crews with the Sun Link Tucson Streetcar project are scheduled to reopen the Cherry Avenue and Second Street intersection on the University of Arizona (UA) campus. The reopening of the intersection should ease congestion for students, faculty and staff, as well as fans attending the first University of Arizona home football game on Saturday.

Sun Link Tucson Streetcar construction is still occurring on and near The University of Arizona, so motorists should plan accordingly and give themselves extra time when traveling to the UA.

David Heineking, Director of UA Parking and Transportation Service, stated “I really commend the project team for getting this milestone accomplished despite the delays that the rain and inclement weather have caused over the past few weeks. They have worked very hard to get this done and we really appreciate it.”

Second Street, between Highland Avenue and Cherry Avenue is scheduled to reopen to vehicular and bicycle traffic by mid-September 2012.

In addition to Cherry Avenue and Second Street intersection reopening, the project team has reopened Fourth Avenue between University Boulevard and Sixth Street, and University Boulevard between Park Avenue and Euclid Avenue. Several other work zones are scheduled to reopen within the next two months.
