Laura Dent, Council Aide

Laura Dent is a graduate of the University of Arizona and holds a degree in Political Science with minors in Latin American Studies and Spanish.  Laura comes to Ward 1 from the labor movement, having worked as Field Director for the Pima Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO in Southern Arizona as well as the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 99 as an organizer and Union Representative.  She currently serves as Secretary of Las Adelitas Arizona, a group dedicated to empowering and engaging Latinas in the political process and is also Corresponding Secretary for the Arizona Democratic Labor Caucus.

Alvira “Vera” B. Gallego, Executive Assistant

Vera was born in San Manuel, Arizona and grew up in the mining town of Mammoth. She spent two years at the University of Arizona and in 2007 received a liberal arts associate degree at Pima Community College. Previously she taught pre-school, kindergarten and was Assistant Director for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. Vera has a beautiful eleven-year-old daughter, Marysol. She is active in the community as a volunteer coach for girl’s volleyball, basketball, and as a math tutor and board member at St. John’s. She has lived in Ward 1’s Westside for the past 9 years.

Diana Rhoades, Chief of Staff

Diana Rhoades has 20 years of experience in public policy development, planning and advocacy. Past work includes project management on land and water policy issues for the Sonoran Institute, land management in Washington, DC and nine years working for the Alaska State Legislature. She has a journalism and public communications degree from the University of Alaska. She is married to Michael Finkelstein and enjoys living downtown in one of Tucson's most walkable, bikeable urban neighborhoods – Santa Rita Park. She serves on the boards of the Tucson Parks Foundation and the U.S. Green Building Council.
