Summary of Current Events
This past Friday, January 11, the Caballeros del Sol held a celebration at the U of A Grand Ballroom to mark fifty years in existence and their work facilitating and promoting business relationships between Tucson, Arizona communities, neighboring states, and Mexico; provide a networking and business development vehicle for members; and make periodic trips to communities to promote commerce.
Third Anniversary
Today (Dec. 7) marks the third anniversary of being sworn into office as your Ward 5 Councilmember. I want to thank the constituents of Ward 5 and the City of Tucson for giving me the opportunity to serve. I also want to thank my staff, Heileen Evans, Javier Herrera, Melinda Jacobs, Mark Kerr, and current interns: Jonathan Simpson and Jeffrey Espinosa for their hard work and commitment in helping me in the capacity as a Councilmember.
City of Tucson and Ward 5 Honored at Common Ground Awards
The City of Tucson and Ward 5 were honored this past Friday, November 30 at the 2012 Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) Common Ground Awards ceremony with wins for the City of Tucson Land Use Code Simplification Project, Valencia Crossing Development Project and for the Toole Avenue Streetscape.
STATEMENT FROM COUNCILMEMBER RICHARD FIMBRES ON SITUATION WITH SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE FOUND
The Tucson Police Department (TPD) informed the Council office that there was a suspicious package in one of the recycling bins located in the parking lot, outside of the building.
TPD and the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) went to the area and determined the gravity of the situation, taking the necessary action, securing and cordoning off the area until a further investigation could be conducted. The FBI and Homeland Security were also involved in this investigation.
