- In 1976, Tucson Water asked its customers to Beat the Peak each summer. Residents responded by using water more efficiently during the hottest months of the year. That allowed Tucson Water to keep critical groundwater wells shut down even during months of high demand.
The Beat the Peak program expanded to year-round to further awareness of the importance of water efficiency. Pete the Beak remains its mascot and spokesduck. Pete asks that you continue supporting water conservation and water efficiency.
